We are CARES JB
A private animal shelter located Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
We rescue and care for abandoned, homeless and abused dogs and cats. We also educate and encourage pet owners to be responsible towards their pets, to prevent the severe stray population.
Our story
In 2001, Joseph Chia founded the Companion Animal Rescue Effort Society.
The society began with caring for just fifteen dogs that Joseph saved from being put down and housed them at a space in Sengkang, Kulai. In six months, the number rose to 70 as people heard about his efforts and sent dogs there.
Today, CARES has a few shelters, the main ones being in Lima Kedai, Gelang Patah and cares for 500+ animals.
With unfortunately very few volunteers, and a need to constantly look out for funding and donations, our missions are not easy but worth every minute of it for the animals.

Our Missions
Rescue

We care for the wellbeing of animals by rescuing and fostering. Whether they are stray animals or abandon by owners, we need to be the voice and give the cats and dogs the chance to live a life they deserve.
Find forever families

Cats and dogs who come from breeding mills are often mistreated and suffer a cruel life only to be dumped on the street when they are no longer profitable for the breeders.
If you are looking for a pet, please Adopt Don't Shop.
We have many dogs and cats looking for their forever family.
Trap Neuter Release Manage (TNRM)

The more pets that are spayed and neutered, the less potential there is for pet breeding and giving birth to unwanted animals which are abandoned in the street.
TRNM is a humane alternative to euthanasia for managing and reducing the community stray cat and dog population. TNRM relies on sterilisation of the animals, so they don't breed.
Looking after strays involves more than feeding them, it's also ensuring they don't breed, causing more unwanted strays, and trouble for the community. TNRM is an effective strategy that we are always trying to promote and follow.
Educate

One of our very important mission is to educate and encourage pet owners to be responsible towards their animals, so as to prevent abandonment in the streets, increasing animal suffering and the stray population.
